What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that causes skin cells to multiply too quickly, resulting in raised, red, scaly patches called plaques.
It's an autoimmune condition.
Psoriasis can affect anyone but is more common in adults than children. It tends to peak between the ages of 20-30 and again between 50-60 years old. It affects men and women in equal numbers but you are more prone if there is a strong family history of psoriasis in your family.

Key aspects of psoriasis:
Psoriasis is not contagious and cannot be passed from person to person.
It's a chronic long-term disease that tends to cycle, with periods of flare-ups and remissions.
It is an autoimmune disease so the immune system plays a central role.
Psoriasis often appears on elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back, but can occur anywhere on the body.
The severity of psoriasis varies depending on the different type of psoriasis you have however it can range from mild irritation to a significant impact on daily life.
In some cases, psoriasis can be associated with psoriatic arthritis, an inflammatory condition affecting the joints.
Various treatments are available to manage symptoms and control flare-ups, including topical creams, light therapy, and oral medications.
